SDNY COURTHOUSE, May 7 – Marcus Mehmet Erkan has sued Genco Shipping & Trading Limited for discriminating against him as a Turkish national and Muslim.
On May 6, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Judge Gregory H. Woods, held a hearing. Inner City Press has it covered.
Erkan’s complaint states that after one of Genco’s ships had a problem, operations manager Bill Firaris “who is Greek/not Turkish” shouted “F-ing Turks” and more.
Judge Woods said fact-finding must take place by September 12, with a status conference on November 14.
The case is Erkan v. Genco Shipping & Trading Limited, 22-cv-186 (Woods)
