The Greek authorities have set aside 80 million euros to support in January the employees and companies impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, including several tourist activities.
According to the Ministries of Finance, Development and Labour, the three new measures cover additional areas of activity and include, among other things, the reinstatement of the leave scheme with special purpose allowance.
the first measure, with a budget of 30 million euros covers the period from 1 to 31 January 2022 and allows nightclubs and bars, concert halls and entertainment venues to suspend all (100%) the contracts of employees.
Employees placed on leave will receive a sum of a monthly subsidy of 534 euros depending on the days of absence. For the same period, the government will cover social security contributions based on the declared salary.
Organizers of events and weddings, performing arts and theaters, venues for events and shows and playgrounds will be able, from January 14 to 31, 2022, to do the same.
As it concerns tourism-related businesses impacted by the Covid, from January 14 to 31, 2022, restaurants, catering services, hotels, travel agencies and reservation services, congress and exhibition organizers, amusement and theme parks and casinos will be able to place 25% of their employees on furlough.
A second measure, budgeted at 42 million euros, concerns financial support of up to 400,000 euros for the impacted sectors, in particular organizers of congresses and trade fairs, event organizers, catering service providers and nightclubs, which have saw their turnover decrease by 50% over the 2019-2020 period.
the third measure, budgeted at 8 million euros, allows the companies affected and the employees concerned to suspend their tax installment for January 2022.
“Government supports tourism again,” said Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias to SKAI TV when commenting on the newly announced measures, adding that the decision to extend aid demonstrates the importance of the sector for the Greek economy.
