“Athens has suffered greatly in recent years and in an unstable global environment has shown its potential, and a walk through downtown Athens, the historic commercial district, is enough for someone to realize that visitors have returned”, announced the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias. in an interview with RealFM on Tuesday, pointing out that “the fact that we made the decision to start the tourist season earlier has played a key role in this recovery”.
According to ANA, he noted that “the launch of direct flights from the United States on March 7, the increase in cruises with Piraeus as a home port, brings passengers to Athens and contributes to the increase in tourist flows creating revenue for the city’s economy.”
In the same context, he announced that the German airline Condor had resumed flights from Düsseldorf and Leipzig on Tuesday after almost 20 years, stressing that “Condor’s decision to choose Athens airport reflects the confidence of the company in the Greek capital as a destination as well as its growing momentum in the German market”.
Referring to the Ministry of Tourism’s strategy, Kikilias noted that “the objective is to obtain the highest possible income to support the Greek family and that is why we are focusing on spendthrift visitors from all markets, with an emphasis on the United States”.
